Eid Al-Fitr is the earlier of the two biggest religious festivals celebrated in Saudi Arabia. It concludes the holy month of Ramadan with a big three-day feast to break the fast. Along with the blessed feast, giving Zakat Al Fitr, a special donation to charity is a big part of Eid Al-Fitr celebrations. The festivities are mostly family-centric and involve morning prayers and family feasts. But most regions and cities in Saudi host large feasts for the entire community that expats are welcomed to respectfully participate in.
Eid al-Adha is the second biggest religious festival and official holiday in Saudi Arabia. It commemorates the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim to sacrifice his firstborn son, Ismail, at the command of God. The celebrations of Eid al-Adha are mostly a private affair for families and involve offering prayers, wearing new clothing, and often slaughtering a sheep or a goat and sharing the meat among family, friends, and neighbors. Some communities distribute the slaughtered meat to the less privileged to celebrate the spirit of Eid al-Adha.
