We begin with a tour of old Riyadh, starting in the downtown area and visiting the traditional Dirah Souq, famous for antique carpets and other Saudi heritage antiques. The area is infused with the aromas of sandalwood and other oriental scents. The Souq is known for men’s clothing, and it is entertaining to watch the auction that takes place every Friday. Next, we visit the Masmak Fort (Subject to re-opening post October), which is within walking distance from the Old Souq. The fort's significance is linked to the establishment of the 3rd Saudi Kingdom, the modern nation we live in today. Built during the reign of Abdullah bin Rashid in 1895 A.D. as a military garrison, the fort was captured by His Majesty King Abdulaziz in 1902, marking the beginning of the House of Saudi's reconquest of Arabia. Return to the hotel for an overnight stay in Riyadh.

After breakfast, embark on a two-hour drive to the traditional village of Ushaiqer, a vibrant example of Najdi architecture on the central plateau of Saudi Arabia. With a history spanning over a millennium, Ushaiqer was a major stopping point for pilgrims from Kuwait and Iraq en route to Makkah for Hajj or Umrah. Explore its narrow alleyways, traditional houses, palaces, and old mosques. Visit a museum featuring a private collection of antiques in one of the village's beautiful old houses. With a history spanning thousands of years, Ad-Diriyah was a key stop on ancient trade and pilgrimage routes connecting Asia, Africa, and Europe. Explore its remarkable architecture before returning to downtown Riyadh.
